Last week was international Women’s Day.

Celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

International Women’s Day means different things to different people. For some it’s a celebration, others it’s a call for action, and for many it’s an opportunity to align and promote relevant activities. Whatever the objective, International Women’s Day is the perfect moment for gender – focused action.

We still need to be aware that progress has slowed in many places across the world, so urgent action is still needed to accelerate gender parity.

\"International-Womens-Day-267x300\"There are some local events that have popped up this year POW!Thanet, Kent which have organized a six day series of events between 8th & 13th March 2016 in Margate, Ramsgate & Broadstairs which focuses this year on the global theme of PLEDGE FOR PARITY.
They have everything from talks to workshops going on. Also our near neighbours at Folkestone, Kent have a fun packed week lined up, POW!Folkestone, Women of the World Festival. Celebrating the incredible achievements of women & girls, also looking at the most potent topics for women today.

“The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights”. Says world-renowned feminist, journalist, social & political activist Gloria Steinem.

One thing is for sure, International Women’s Day has been occurring for over a century and is growing annually from strength to strength.
